Making your own products at home

Before I got into soap making, I had started making all sorts of home made products for myself and family. I had started to really take notice of commercial products and reading ingredient labels (something I had never really bothered to do before) and it had got me thinking about making a few things for myself. Surprisingly with a lot of research and the great cosmetic companies we have available in the UK, I soon realised it was quite feasible to make many products at home.

What is great about making your own products is that you are fully in control of what ingredients you use in that product and you can fully customise to suit your needs. By researching what all the different ingredients can offer in terms of skin benefits, you can then make products that suit your skin type or simply to avoid all the added chemicals and unwanted additives that some commercial products may use. Although I will stress that I am not adverse to the use of chemicals as everything is a chemical (even water!) and if they are all skin safe then you are pretty safe to use them.

So I began to make solid lotion bars, body butters, face masks, bath bombs, creams, bath oils, lip balms, bath truffles, hand creams, body scrubs, face scrubs.......the list goes on! Making your products was so enjoyable and it also led me to start a facebook group to share recipes and engage with other people who would also share their products and recipes. To date this group has over 1000 members and is a great way to share ideas and inspiration with each other and is filled with lots of amazing members from all over the world.

Anyway, what I thought I would do is share the odd few recipes on here for people to try out. Please remember that only you are responsible for making and using your own products and if you are in the EU, any product made cannot be sold unless you have had it cosmetically safety assessed by a qualified Cosmetic Chemist. These are purely shared for fun, so responsibility for testing them and using them is down to yourself.

This recipe is very quick, simple and easy and a great way to pamper your skin. For use straight away (do not keep beyond one day).
